I need help selecting a topic for my 6 thinking hats assignment. They are the blue, red, black, white, yellow and green hats. If you don’t know what they are follow this link…

http://www.citehr.com/28437-6-thinking-hat-concept.html

or

http://blog.iqmatrix.com/mind-map/edward-de-bono-6-thinking-hats-mind-map

Anyway, an example might be “Universal Mobile translator with speech recognition capabilities”

Under white hat, I would list something like
White Hat:
-All the related technology already exists
-Cost projection per unit is $300-500
-Portable
-Convenient
-Voice activated

Red Hat:
-People will love it.
-People would be less afraid to travel
-More comfortable speaking to foreigners
-Improved worldwide inter-race communications
-Improved political interactions

Black Hat:
-Another device contributing to hearing loss
-EMI radiation effecting the brain
-Too expensive for low income people
-Possibilities of miscommunication
-We have no inventor experience

Yellow Hat
-Will be the best invention ever
-Worldwide popularity
-Will make us, the inventors, billionaires
-We will be on all the cool TV talk shows and news
-We can become UN ambassadors for peace

Green Hat:
-Can improve cost effectiveness by applying for US, UN and other manufacturing, distribution and retail subsidies
-Enable periodic updates for improved translational capabilities of device
-Local energy network focused unit’s power options
-Basic “black and white” LCD display with low power consumption

Blue Hat:
-Need to shop around and compare existing conventional portable universal translators for prices, capabilities, power options
-Need to investigate government, UN, private foundations grant and subsidy options and processes
-Check into working with professional entrepreneur or marketing company
-Investigate what we need to know (software, linguistics, marketing, finance, etc.) to make this happen

I need everyone’s help creating a topic that will also easily help me write down a lot of information under each hat.

All help is welcome and much appreciated!

First off, a little back story so that you’ll understand everything. Basically, didn’t do that well in High School just getting low B’s and High C’s despite the simplicity of those courses. I just didn’t think any of it would be that important at the moment, and now its coming back to bite me in the a$$.

Well sort of anyway, I spent the time I was supposed to be doing homework learning computer programming and other divisions of computer science. I graduated high school May 2009, and wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to college yet so I gave myself a year off.

Now it’s January, and I’m wanting to go to college. I just took my SAT’s and will be getting my scores back on February 19th. I’ve been looking at Colleges such as:

Rice University (First Choice)
Harvey Mudd (heard this school was tough, but i’ve always liked a challenge)
University Of Texas at Austin (School i’ve always dreamt of going to)
Texas A&M
Ohio State
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
CalTech

I am VERY interested in genetic programming, and have been toying around with it lately. I am also well versed in OOP principles, and making flexible, reusable, and extensible programs. I have experience developing software for clients via freelancing websites such as rentacoder.com and scriptlance.com.

As you might be able to tell, I am very confused as to what I need to do now. I was wondering if applying genetic programming to solve some sort of problem would increase my chances of getting into these schools. Would any other type of computer programming projects help my chances of getting in? Is my real world software development experience helpful in getting me into college?

Also, my family is making little to no income right now so I should be eligible for financial aid. I have found a ton of resources online, but I’m not sure what to do with all of them. I’m basically lost right now, and asking for some guidance for anyone that has been in a similar situation. Also, here is a list of skills that I have:

HTML
CSS
Graphic Design (beginner to intermediate)
PHP (5 years experience)
MySQL
Perl
Python
C# (3 years experience)
*nix administration
I’m great with Regex
Security vulnerabilities (hackthissite.com hellboundhackers.org and finding vulner. on local machine)
C++ (beginnner)
Java (beginner to intermediate, very similar to C#)
Search Engine Optimization
Internet Marketing
Affiliate Marketing
E-commerce
Ad copy testing/tracking conversions
Google Adwords Specialist

I also might consider playing football in college, here are my relevant attributes:
6’4 198 lbs
4.6 40 yard dash
225 lbs X 1 (weak I know)
32″ vertical
4.43 20 yard shuttle

Another thing of note is I have impeccable balance and control of my body due to training parkour for 2 years. Here is parkour:

me:

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/92/m_5a625c6a2b2941f0af39ee8a83d4ec4f.jpg

video:

As you can tell, i’ve had a ton of hobbies over the years… any help or guidance is appreciated.

- Cody

1. Applicant/Company Information

Brief outline of your business concept:

Design Coffee Shop is a company involved with providing quality item in an origiral setting. It provides graphic design and marketing communication services. it not provide big business . It isa small local business, not a major corpoaration.
In the past, people would not spend more than 50 cents for a cup of coffee. For a few years, now they glad to pay $1 to $4 for their cappuccino, mocha latte or vanilla ice blended drink
The specialty-coffee business is growing at a healthy pace.
The competive, companies include Starbucks, The Coffee Bean, Pet’s, Dietrich’s and other major chains, who serve average quality drinks in establishments that have the same generic design appearance. Indeed, Starbucks and The Coffee Bean are often referred to as “fast food” coffeehouses due to their “cookie cutter” design. Now that Americans’ coffee preferences have broadened and matured, many are asking for more from their coffee shop. Design Coffee Shop can fill this need for more sophisticated shop.

Market Risks
MARKET OPPORTUNITY
Comparative Advantages in Production
Industry Overview
Market Research
There are other businesses that serve only coffee in our town
Size of the Industry
Nationally, the coffee shop industry is quite large, but in somearea, there are more.
Trends
This industry is booming at the present time, and there is a trend toward small cozy places and away from the large generic chains.
Industry Outlook
The coffee business does not show signs of slowing down. With new innovations such as flavorings and additives, it should continue for a long time.
Marketing Strategy
Target Markets
Our target market is a artist and writers who need a nice quiet cozy place to think and do their work.
Description of Key Competitors
Of the three coffee shops in the area, one is a large chain with a very expensive product, one is really a home-style restaurant, and the last one, our biggest competitor is an antique store with a “tea room”.
Analysis of Competitive Position
Our pricing strategy and comfortable atmosphere will be the key to our success. None of the other shops in the area can offer this.
Pricing Strategy
We will offer three sizes of drinks, small $1.00, medium $1.50 and large $2.00.
Our cookies and brownies will sell for $1.00 each and selling a booket of artwork for $10.00
Promotion Strategy
We intend to advertise in the local newspapers and offer a “frequent drinkers club” discount to our best customers. We will also send out ads via direct mail, which will include cents off coupons.
Management and Staffing
Organizational Structure
Our organizational structure will be a simple pyramid style with the owners putting in as much work as the employees. Pyrimid a tall hierarchical structure, in other words, then I would be the boss, with a general manager working as your employee, who has a team, that on its turn supervises the employees. I think I mean a Flat structure (with the owners being “one of the guys”)
Management Team
April and Arlene will share management and supervisory responsibilities equally. Arlene for the morning shift. April for the afternoon shift.
Staffing
We will hire two busboys and two waitresses; these will be recruited from the local high school.
Labor Market Issues
In this area there are many high school students looking for work, part time or full time, we want to fill that need.

Market Risks
The main risk is monetary. The area may not be ready for a place like ours and we may not do a great business.
Implementation Plan
Implementation Activities and Dates

I’m having a hard time in my stat class and don’t have any examples to go by. Please help me.

A tire manufacturer believes the tread life of its snow tires can be described by a normal distribution with a mean of 32,000 miles and a standard deviation of 2800 miles. Find the probability (rounding to tenth of percent) that a randomly selected tire will have a tread life:

a. that last at least 40,000 miles

b. that last less than 30,000 miles

c. that last between 30,000 and 35,000 miles

d. In planning a marketing strategy, a local tire dealer wants to offer a refund to any customer whose tires fail to last a certain number of miles. However, the dealer doesn’t want to take too big a financial risk with this guarantee. If the dealer is willing to give refunds to no more than 1 out of every 50 tires sold, for what mileage can he guarantee each tire to last ? (Round to the nearest whole number)

e. Find the probability that 150 randomly chosen tires will have a mean tread wear of greater than 35,000 miles ? (Round to tenth of a percent)

Can i use my ti 83 to solve. How do i know what formulas to use?

Charlie Driver is 23. For the past five years, since finishing high school, he has been working and saving money. He has about $20,000 in the bank and has decided to attend his local college and take courses in marketing. To help pay for his living costs and tuition fees, and to obtain some business experience, Charlie has contracted with a local mobile catering company to become an independent driver. Charlie wants to do this in a business-like way and has given himself a company name: Charlie’s Convenient Catering (or the 3C Company for short). He has opened up a bank account with $20,000 in the company’s name. From this account he has purchased a secondhand fully equipped truck for $16,000.
Charlie started in business on January 1. Although he has taken no accounting courses, he realized he would have to provide an accountant, at the year’s end, with detailed records of all transactions during the year. At the end of the year, Charlie asked you, as a friend, to help him put together some figures. All sales during the year were on a cash basis. Unfortunately, despite the fact that Charlie carefully recorded each day’s revenue in a daily diary, he cannot find that diary.
At the end of December, he had $11,110 in his bank account and $48 in change in the cash drawer in the truck. He paid cash during the year for food, beverages, and other supplies that he purchased from the catering company he was contracted to. According to invoices this totaled $25,296. He estimates year-end inventory in the truck to be $350. Charlie had no employees but took $2,000 a month out of the company for his own salary. During the year he paid operating expenses (maintenance, gas, and oil, licensing) on the truck in cash. These expenses added up to $1,828. In addition there is one more unpaid repair invoice to come, for $254. The two of you decide that, since the truck has an estimated five-year life with no scrap value, depreciation should be calculated on a straight-line basis over that period.
a. b. c. d.
Calculate the 3C Company’s revenue for the year. Calculate the company’s net income for the year. Explain why the cash in the bank is so much higher than the net income. Explain why the 3C Company started out with $20,000 in the bank, has a net income for the year, yet ended up with only about $11,000 in the bank.
